The word is free
Custom is on every website in this trade. It costs nothing to say and it is not a claim anybody checks. The test is not the word. It is whether anything was drawn before the number appeared.Keep that in mind while you are comparing companies. A package starts with a number and works backward. A design starts with your building and arrives at a number. Both are legitimate ways to sell. Only one of them is designed for you, and you should know which one you are buying.
What you should be looking at
A plan describes your house. Scope should be itemized, since a general phrase leaves room for disagreement. It says what color temperature the everyday setting will be. It says where the controller mounts and how the wiring runs. And it accounts for what stays dark, deliberately.
Why the design has to come before the price
A price with nothing behind it is not comparable to anything. The cheaper number frequently covers a smaller scope, which only becomes clear at night after the install. When the design comes first, you are comparing the same work. When the price comes first, scope gets trimmed to hit it.Once the plan is written down, you can compare the finished work to it, which is the whole point of having it.
The questions a designer should ask you
A good design conversation involves a lot of asking. How you use the outside of your home, which parts you occupy at night, and whether the priority is holidays, everyday light, or both. Those answers shape the design as much as the building.
Where a plan earns its keep
Roofline, landscape, accent, patio and security work usually all appear on the list. Bought separately over several years,
https://keeganqtja352.fotosdefrases.com/outdoor-lighting-in-greenville-sc-from-roofline-to-walkway-outdoor-lighting-around-greenville-and-the-upstate-explained-simply they end up mismatched: different whites, different intensities, competing focal points. One plan, installed over time if necessary, still ends up coherent.
You are allowed to push back on the plan
A design is a proposal, not a verdict. If a run looks wrong to you, cut it. If it comes back to you unchanged, with no room to adjust, that is worth noticing. Ask how many rounds are normal during the first conversation.
Ask for a copy
Ask for a copy, and keep it. It is useful down the road in ways that are not obvious at the time. The design is yours.
